The past few weeks have brought another exciting round of ballet career news—check out the latest farewells, appointments, promotions, and more in your March 2026 roster roundup.

Promotions and Appointments

On Saturday, February 28, New York City Ballet announced the promotion of Ryan Tomash to principal following his performance in Jerome Robbins’ Dances at a Gathering.

The following Royal New Zealand Ballet dancers have been promoted to first artist: Cadence Barrack, Catarina Estévez Collins, Jennifer Ulloa, and Rose Xu.

At Alberta Ballet, Yaroslav Khudych has moved up to senior corps de ballet, and Rémy Gray has been promoted to the corps.

Westside Ballet of Santa Monica has appointed Adrian Blake Mitchell as its new artistic director, effective June 8, 2026; his interim role of the ballet company’s artistic director designate begins immediately. Mitchell served as the Westside School of Ballet’s associate executive director since 2022.

Farewells, New Arrivals, and Guestings

Longtime American Ballet Theatre principal Cory Stearns has announced that he will retire from the company following its summer run of Onegin. He will give his farewell performance in the title role on Saturday, June 27.

After 12 years at Ballet San Antonio, principal Sofie Bertolini has announced her retirement for the end of the 2025–26 season.

English National Ballet has announced several guest artists for its 2026–27 season. Former ENB soloist and Staatsballett Berlin principal Ksenia Ovsyanick and Australian Ballet first soloist Davi Ramos will join ENB onstage as associate guest artists; Paris Opéra Ballet étoile Hugo Marchand will also perform with the company.

ENB also welcomes associate guest répétiteur Cynthia Harvey, as well as guest répétiteurs Stefanie Arndt, Yannick Boquin, Manuel Legris, Elisabeth Maurin, and Alejandro Parente.

Awards and Recognitions

Alessandra Ferri, director of the Vienna State Ballet, has been awarded the title of Officer of the Order of Arts and Letters on behalf of the French Ministry of Culture, one of the highest ranks of France’s cultural honor.

The German Dance Association has recognized Staatsballett Berlin artistic director Christian Spuck with the German Dance Award, which honors outstanding dance figures in the country.

The Foundation for the Promotion of the Hamburg State Opera has awarded Hamburg Ballet soloists Olivia Betteridge and Charlotte Larzelere the Dr. Wilhelm Oberdörffer Prize, which recognizes emerging talent.
