The past few weeks have brought another exciting round of ballet career news—check out the latest farewells, appointments, promotions, and more in your April 2026 roster roundup.

Promotions and Appointments

On March 28, San Francisco Ballet’s Katherine Barkman was promoted to principal onstage following her performance as Kitri in Don Quixote.

At Miami City Ballet, Cameron Catazaro and Taylor Naturkas have been promoted to principal. 

Staatsballett Berlin has announced 12 promotions, effective at the start of the 2026–27 season: Kalle Wigle has been promoted to first soloist; Emma Antrobus, Marina Duarte, Fiona McGee, and Leroy Mokgatle to soloist; and Jessica Beardsell, Achille de Groeve, Vivian Assal Koohnavard, Yuka Matsumoto, Giovanni Princic, Alicia Ruben, and Lewis Turner to demi-soloist.

At The Australian Ballet, Larissa Kiyoto-Ward has been promoted from coryphée to soloist, and corps de ballet members Mio Bayly and Henry Berlin have moved up to coryphée.

The following dancers from the Royal Winnipeg Ballet will move up in the ranks at the start of the next season: Marco Lo Presti to principal; Julianna Generoux, Logan Savard, and Kyra Soo to soloist; Maggie Weatherdon to second soloist; and Olivia Koppanyi and Aidan Vaudreuil to full company member.

At Ballet San Antonio, Logan Acker, Alexandra Carey, and Luciano Perotto have been promoted to soloist.

Ballet Tucson’s August Hartung has moved up to demi-soloist.

Sacramento Ballet has named former San Francisco Ballet principal Tiit Helimets as its new artistic director, effective at the start of the 2026–27 season.

The Hamburg Ministry for Culture and Media has extended Lloyd Riggins and Nicolas Hartmann’s joint interim directorship of the Hamburg Ballet until the end of the 2026–27 season.

At Les Grands Ballets Canadiens, demi-soloist Hamilton Nieh has joined the artistic team as a ballet master.

Farewells, New Arrivals, and Guestings

After 53 years with the San Francisco Ballet, most recently as a principal character dancer, Val Caniparoli has left the company to focus on full-time choreography. He gave his final performance with SFB in Don Quixote on March 28.

New York City Ballet has announced the upcoming retirements of principals Adrian Danchig-Waring and Taylor Stanley. Danchig-Waring will give his farewell performance this year on October 18, and Stanley will give theirs on February 28, 2027. This April 16–18, Stanley will also be a guest performer with A.I.M by Kyle Abraham, in Abraham’s Cassette Vol. 1 at NYU Skirball Center.

Longtime Australian Ballet principal Callum Linnane will depart the company in June to join Hamburg Ballet as a principal, effective at the start of the 2026–27 season.

After more than a decade with Miami City Ballet, principal soloist Jordan Elizabeth Long has retired from the stage.

Pacific Northwest Ballet principal Elizabeth Murphy has announced her retirement for the end of the 2025–26 season. PNB will celebrate Murphy, who has been with the company since 2011, during its Season Encore Performance on Sunday, June 7.

The National Ballet of Canada has announced that after nine years with the company, principal Siphesihle November will depart in June, at the end of its 2025–26 season.

Longtime Boston Ballet principal Chyrstyn Mariah Fentroy has left the company. Her final performance with BB was on March 15, in Crystal Pite’s The Seasons’ Canon.

Ingrid Silva has announced that, after 18 years with Dance Theatre of Harlem, she is departing the company at the end of its 2026 season.

After 18 years with Miami City Ballet, principal Nathalia Arja willtake her final bow this May.

The following Cincinnati Ballet dancers have announced their retirements: principal Melissa Gelfin, soloist Marcus Romeo, and corps members Simon Plant and Bella Ureta.

Ballet Arizona’s Alli Chester gave her retirement performance on March 22.

Les Grands Ballets Canadiens corps artist Oscar Lambert has departed to join Ballet Nacional Sodre in Uruguay.

After 11 seasons with Cleveland Ballet, founding company member Lauren Stenroos has taken her final bow. She will continue to work with the company as a full-time rehearsal director.

The Royal Ballet’s Natalia Osipova, a former principal with American Ballet Theatre, will return to ABT as a guest artist for its 2026 summer season. She will appear as Kitri in Don Quixote on Monday, July 6.

American Ballet Theatre principal Chloe Misseldine will perform as a guest artist in Ballet Concierto de Puerto Rico’s production of Swan Lake April 25–26.

Awards and Recognitions

On March 5, France’s ambassador to the Netherlands, François Alabrune, presented Dutch National Ballet artistic director Ted Brandsen and principal Olga Smirnova with insignias of the Knight of the Order of Arts and Letters. The honor recognizes individuals who have distinguished themselves artistically and contributed to the influence of the arts and letters in France and beyond.

New York City Ballet principal Tiler Peck will receive the 2026 Jacob’s Pillow Dance Award, which recognizes an artist of outstanding achievement each year. Peck will accept the award, which includes a $25,000 cash prize, at the Pillow’s season-opening gala on Saturday, June 20.
